Frequently Asked Questions

I'm crowdsourcing these questions & will be adding to the FAQ

These Questions will continue to be updated for the Valentine's Event

- $200 per person is an awful lot of money - what's that all about?

There are multiple factors at play here:

1. This is a benefit dinner meant to not only support staff that has been out of reliable work for 4 months, but to raise money for all the things it takes to run a restaurant.  We lost everything when Marshall was flooded & now we need to replace all of it - even though we're changing concepts, we still need plates, glasses, silver, tables, chairs, computers, coolers, ovens, a flat top, fryers - everything.

2. All of #1 aside, throwing an event in a restaurant that isn't currently open requires nearly the same overhead as keeping a restaurant running for a week (more, in some cases).

- Really? Cash only?

Yes.  One of the many things we haven't purchased yet is a P.O.S. System - this is what a business uses to run credit cards.  Venmo is an option for paying "the house" as well as tipping your server, but cash is far easier for everyone to handle.

- Where are y'all having this shindig?

It will be at the old Ave. M Space in N. Asheville,

791 Merrimon Ave. Asheville NC 28804

- What does the $200/ person cover?

- Four Course Dinner

- Wine pairing for each course

- Tax

** Gratuity Not Included**

- How do I request those reservations?

Just shoot us an email to Kate.StarDiner@gmail.com or StarDinerWNC.com or, click "contact us" or "make reservations" on this page

- What should I include in my reservation request email?

Thanks for asking! Include:

Your name

Number in your party

Preferred seating Day and Time (We're taking reservations every 15 min, beginning at 5:00 and going until about 8:30 / 9:00)

A good Phone number to reach you on

Any allergies that need to be discussed ahead of time - unlike "normal" Star Diner dinners, we will not have the same ability to make changes "in the moment" any alterations must be discussed ahead of time.

- Can I get Non-Alcoholic Pairings?

Absolutely! We do ask that you specify this preference when making your reservation request

- What if I'm allergic to something? It says "No Substitutions"

Please make your allergies known when requesting your reservation. Due to the nature of a "one night only" event, we won't be able to alter dishes "in the moment."

- What does "Prix Fixe" Mean? Can't I just order off the menu?

"Prix Fixe" Means that you pay one price ($200) and get to pick one dish from each course. Each course comes with one glass of wine, pre-chosen by the chef.

- Back to this "No Substitutions" thing. . . ?

I know. It breaks my heart to not be able to accommodate everyone's individual tastes.  This night, we will be putting our trust in Chef Brian.

- What about Wine? Can I switch out wine pairings or buy more?

Unfortunately, no. Back to the "one night only" thing - we are going to purchase exactly what we need for this event, no more, no less.  While we know not everyone coming will be driving, we are mindful of the holiday being celebrated & keeping safety in mind.

- When you say "Cash" - is that paper money, or do you have an app?

Preferably, that's paper money - but I also know it can be more trouble than it's worth to get paper money. I do, technically have Venmo, and PayPal

- Do you need food choices ahead of time?

No, thank you! We just need to know if there are allergies, so we can be sure both parties (us and you) are happy with what will be provided.

- Is Carry-Out available?

Brian & I have been going over the pros & cons of carry out for this event and we aren't going to be able to do carry out.

In addition to not having the proper carry out container resources (boxes for left overs are different from "take out" boxes), the quality would just be too compromised to charge what we have to for our overhead to make it an acceptable value.
